How Reports Work

How Reports Work

ReportYou is a consumer accountability platform. Here's exactly how a report goes from submission to resolution.

1. Submit a Report

Anyone can file a report against a business on ReportYou. To submit: • Create a free account (required to prevent spam and ensure accountability) • Search for the business or add it if it doesn't yet exist in our directory • Describe the incident: what happened, when, how much money was involved, and what you tried to do to resolve it • Optionally upload supporting evidence (photos, receipts, screenshots) • Choose your visibility preference: fully anonymous or with your name shown • Pay a small filing fee (where applicable) to deter frivolous reports Your report is submitted as a "Draft" and moves to "Pending Review" once submitted.

2. Review & Moderation

All submitted reports go through a moderation process before becoming publicly visible: • Automated AI screening checks for spam, profanity, and obviously false claims • Reports that pass automated review are published as "Open" on the vendor's profile • Reports flagged by AI are queued for manual admin review • Platform moderators may request additional information or evidence from the reporter • Reports that violate our content policy are rejected and not published Moderation typically completes within 24–72 hours of submission.

3. Business or Public Response

Once a report is published, the business named in the report is notified and given the opportunity to respond: • Businesses can submit an official response directly on the platform • Responses are visible to all users alongside the original report • Businesses can request mediation or propose a resolution • Community members can vote on the report (valid complaint / not valid / needs more info) • Voting helps surface the most credible reports and identify patterns Businesses that claim and verify their profile receive priority notification of new reports.

4. Resolution Tracking

ReportYou tracks whether reports are resolved and how: • The original reporter can mark a case as resolved once the issue is addressed • Resolution methods include: refund issued, service completed, replacement provided, or admin decision • Resolved cases are clearly labelled on the vendor's profile, showing their responsiveness • A vendor's overall reputation grade (A–F) is calculated from their open vs. resolved case history • Cases that remain unresolved contribute negatively to the vendor's public accountability score Reporters receive notifications whenever the status of their case changes.

5. Abuse & False Report Protections

ReportYou takes false or abusive reports seriously. We have several layers of protection: • Filing fees deter low-effort or malicious filings • AI moderation flags suspicious patterns before publication • Businesses can formally dispute a report if they believe it is false or defamatory • Users who repeatedly submit bad-faith reports may have their accounts suspended • Reports found to be demonstrably false following review are removed from the platform • All reporters are subject to our Terms of Service and may be held legally accountable for knowingly false statements If you believe a report about your business is false, contact support@reportyou.com or use the dispute option on the case page.
